Steps to Measure Your Kitchen

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Measuring tape (preferably a steel one for accuracy)

  • Pencil and paper

  • Calculator (optional)

  • Camera or smartphone (needed for reference photos)

Step 1: Draw a Rough Layout of Your Kitchen

  • On a blank sheet of paper, sketch the basic shape of your kitchen. Don’t worry about it being too scale—just get the general shape down.

  • Include all key features like walls, doorways, windows, and any fixed appliances (fridge, stove, etc.).

Step 2: Measure the Lengths of All Walls

  • All dimensions should be labeled in inches only.

  • Start with one wall and measure from corner to corner. Write the measurement down directly on your sketch.

  • Move clockwise around the room, measuring each wall’s length and note it on the drawing.

Step 3: Measure Windows, Doors, and Openings

  • For each window and door, measure the width and height of the opening.

  • Mark the location of windows and doors on your sketch, including the distance from the nearest corner to the edge of each opening.

  • Don’t forget to note the direction in which the doors swing.

Step 4: Measure Ceiling Height

  • Stand in the center of the room and measure from the floor to the ceiling.

  • If the ceiling height varies (e.g., sloped ceiling), measure the highest and lowest points.

Step 5: Measure Appliances and Fixtures

  • Measure the width, height, and depth of major appliances (fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc.) if you plan to keep them.

  • Also, measure the sink and any permanent fixtures like countertops or cabinets.

Step 6: Measure to the Center of Plumbing and Electrical

  • For accurate placement of appliances and sinks, measure the distance from the nearest wall to the center of your plumbing (pipes under the sink) and any electrical outlets or switches.

Step 7: Take Photos for Reference and upload in your member area

  • Snap a few pictures of your kitchen from different angles. This will help during the design process and if any measurements need clarification later.

Important Tips:

  • Double-check all measurements to ensure accuracy.

  • Label everything clearly on your sketch, especially windows, doors, and appliances.

  • Be sure to include as many dimensions as possible. The more you provide, the more accurate the drawings can be!
